House Program (U5-U10)

The VAFC House Program is our grassroots, community-based soccer program for children ages 4 to 9, spanning U5 (Under 5) through U10. It introduces young players to soccer in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment, with an emphasis on participation, skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment. The program welcomes first-time players as well as children with previous soccer experience who are looking for a balanced, local program.

House League programming is offered in two distinct seasons. The main Fall/Winter Program runs from September to March, while the separate Spring House Program offers a shorter season combining skill-focused practices with games and small-sided play, with the format tailored to each age group.

To determine a player's age group, match the birth year on the table below:

Fall / Winter Program

The Fall/Winter House Program is VAFC’s main soccer season, running approximately from mid-September through March. It provides age-appropriate, community-based programming for U5–U10 players.

Under the VAFC umbrella, House programming is organized into four groups:

  • Douglas Park Boys — home fields at Douglas Park or Quilchena Park
  • Douglas Park Girls — home fields at Douglas Park or Quilchena Park
  • Grandview Boys — home field at Clinton Park
  • Trout Lake Girls — home field at Trout Lake

Sessions and home games are held locally at the selected House Soccer location, helping keep travel manageable for families. The groups follow the same overall program structure and philosophy; their names recognize the community clubs that came together to form VAFC in 2013.

Please note: U8–U10 teams begin playing other Vancouver Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) clubs after Thanksgiving or the winter break. Once interclub play begins, families should expect some away games at fields outside their selected VAFC home location.

After registration, VAFC forms the teams and confirms the coaches. Families typically receive schedule, equipment, and team information two to four weeks before the season begins.

Registration for the 2026/27 Fall/Winter House season is now open.

To guarantee a spot, players must register by June 1. Registrations after this date will be accepted based on availability and do not guarantee placement.

Spring Program

The Spring House Program is VAFC’s shorter spring season, running approximately from April through June. It gives U5–U10 players an opportunity to continue playing after the Fall/Winter season—or join VAFC in the spring—in a fun, development-focused environment combining skill instruction with small-sided games.

Spring programming is organized by age:

  • U5–U7: Coach-led sessions focusing on movement, coordination, fundamental soccer skills, and small-sided play
  • U8–U10: A dedicated Skills Centre combining station-based technical training with scheduled mini-game sessions

U8–U10 training covers core skills such as ball mastery, one-on-one dribbling, passing and receiving, and shooting. Mini-game groups may change throughout the season, giving players opportunities to play with different teammates and apply their skills in a game environment.

Weekly commitment

  • U5–U7: A 45- or 60-minute session, with schedules varying by age and location
  • U8–U10: Typically two weekly training sessions plus a weekend mini-game session

Spring programming uses fields across Vancouver rather than the neighbourhood-based House League groups used during the Fall/Winter season. Registration typically opens in January or February, with exact dates, locations, and weekly options announced before each spring season.
