VAFC invites current U16–U18 players to make a positive impact in our soccer community by helping coach younger players. Junior Coaches share their experience, support volunteer coaches and club staff, and help young athletes build skills and confidence.

Share your passion for soccer. Help younger players enjoy the game and develop their skills.
Develop leadership skills. Be a positive role model and help teach teamwork and sportsmanship.
Give back to VAFC. Strengthen connections across the club.
Earn volunteer hours. Coaching hours may count toward school community service requirements and may strengthen scholarship applications, including VAFC Club Scholarships.
Applicants must be current VAFC players on a U16–U18 club team. Junior Coaches need to attend the VAFC on-field junior coaching clinic, be available for one weekly coaching session from September through early March, work alongside a VAFC coach or staff member, and act as positive role models for younger players.
Plan for one coaching session each week, generally about 60 to 75 minutes, from September through early March. Junior Coaches assist with demonstrations, activities and player engagement under the guidance of a VAFC coach or staff member.
U8–U10 house teams: Junior Coaches are assigned to one boys’ or girls’ team and attend its weekly session.
U5–U7 house programming: Saturday sessions generally run between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Junior Coaches are assigned a session or sessions within that window, not the full four hours.
Player: Build on your experience as a U16–U18 VAFC player.
Junior Coach Clinic: Learn communication, demonstrations, activity delivery, safety and player engagement.
Supported coaching: Put those skills into practice at weekly sessions with guidance and feedback from a VAFC coach or staff member.
Future opportunities: Junior Coaches who show commitment, reliable attendance, strong performance and a positive fit may be considered for further development or future paid VAFC coaching roles as positions become available. Paid work is not guaranteed.
Complete the Junior Coach application to register your interest in the on-field coaching clinic. The clinic date, time and location will be confirmed. After the clinic, Junior Coaches will be assigned a role in VAFC’s house program.
